Nikki is originally a country girl but she’s also lived in Kaohsiung, and Taichung before moving to Taipei five years ago. She worked in a travel agents for a while and has been at Malibu East since the end of 2002. As soon as she finishes work, she starts on her favourite hobby, sleeping. She would like to do more painting, but says she doesn’t have the time. She would also like to go hiking, but she has no one to go with.

Catherine must be unique in Taiwan as she doesn’t know how to use a computer. She does know how to use a TV and that’s her favourite hobby, along with sleeping. She used to work for a travel agent and took tour groups all over South East Asia, Korea and Japan. She left that for bar work as she wants to improve her English so she can go off travelling on her own and her first stop will be Nepal.
Daisy has worked part-time at Malibu East since June 2002. She also has a day job in a trading company and so she has no free time. Her hobby is saving enough money to buy a house, a hobby she’ll be doing for quite a few more years. She spent three years working in Silicon Valley and left to return home as her mum was ill. Daisy has no regrets about leaving the states as loves Taiwan and she thinks its better than California.
May only recently gave up her job at the Grand Hyatt Hotel to work at Malibu East. She likes the bar job as it’s more relaxed than a hotel and she can drink and smoke. When not working, May is determined to restore consumer confidence in Taiwan all by herself as she feels that if she has free time, then she should be spending money. ‘Shopping is my life,’ is her motto and she has three wardrobes of clothes she hasn’t even worn yet.
Alex is young, but experienced. Although he’s only 19, he has spent one year working in Shanghai as an assistant cameraman before coming back to Taiwan and getting ready to join the army by improving his drinking and pool playing skills. He likes playing basketball, but his passion is pool and he claims to be a really good pool player.
Gill was a chef at Malibu West for two years and has been the chef at Mailbu East for a year. He describes himself as a quiet person and would rather let his food do the talking. He inherited his love of cooking from his father, but while his father cooks Chinese food, Gill’s specialty is Italian.
